
As a service to the Counseling Professionals in Kentucky and surrounding states, the Lindsey Wilson College Center for Excellence in Research is pleased to offer this professional development symposium during the summer of 2019. CEs are offered through the Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors or the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
Participants attending the pre-approved seminars at the Symposium can earn up to 6 Continuing Education hours from the KY LPCC Board which meets the necessary requirements of SB 72 for providing mental health services in the State of Kentucky.

Counseling for Trauma and Violence Prevention and Reduction
The 5th Annual Mental Health Counseling Symposium will focus on issues of loss and grief, natural disasters, survivorship and disability, the impact of war on civilians and veterans and the distinct effects of trauma and violence on children, men, and women. It will also discuss counseling strategies to help survivors of traumatic events, including hate crimes, interpersonal violence, school violence, domestic violence, ethnic violence, and terrorism. Presenters will share evidence-based trauma assessment techniques and various intervention strategies for the prevention and reduction of violence, abuse, and trauma. Ethical guidelines and self-care methods for counselors who work with the victims and perpetrators of violence will be discussed.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Bradley Erford, Professor at the Vanderbilt University, Tennessee
We are honored to have Dr. Bradley Erford, an elite, outstanding, and shining scholar, as our keynote speaker. Dr. Erford was 61st President of the American Counseling in 2013-2014. He is the author or editor of more than 30 counseling books, and has authored more than 75 scholarly articles, 100 book chapters, and 20 psycho-educational tests. He has also made more than 200 scholarly presentations. He is Editor of Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development (MECD) and Senior Associate Editor of Journal of Counseling & Development (JCD).
